White Wednesday

Video Work

Collaboration between Atoosa Farahmand and Oscar Hagberg who is creating duo that have produced and are making both short films and exhibitions.

With this collaboration we want to support the protests in Iran regarding women rights. We are not there with people but we want to show our support for women in Iran fighting for their rights of being free. The name ‘‘White Wednesdays’’ comes from the protest of women in Iran wearing white, sharing videos and photos of themselves taking away their hijab. Hijab is a choice not a force. We believe that people should decide themselves what they want. Our idea comes from My Stealthy Freedom which is an online social movement where Iranian women share photos of themselves without wearing the hijab. The movement was started by Masih Alinejad. The short film ‘‘White Wednesdays’’ has been shown in film festivals and conferences around the world.
